Tools for Spiritual Growth
It's not always easy to wake up at 5 am for my dedicated quiet time before starting my day, especially when the temptation to sleep until 6:45 arises, but I've come to realize that neglecting this time with God throws my entire day and week into chaos, leaving me with a sour attitude, an irritable spirit, and heightened anxiety. That's why it's crucial to start my day off right, grounded in Jesus, as it sets the tone for a more peaceful and fulfilling journey ahead. I'd like to share with you some daily tools I use to enrich my relationship with God, in the hope that they may also benefit you.
First and foremost, I rely on my Bible. Currently, I'm reading from the Woman's Study Bible, New International Version, which I purchased at Barnes & Noble. While there are many versions of the Bible available, my personal favorite is the NIV because it breaks down complex concepts into plain and accessible language. When I'm studying and reading my Bible, I also make use of Enduring Word for Bible commentary. This provides insightful breakdowns of the Bible, offering historical facts that can enhance your understanding of the text and its context.
Next are my three favorite journals: my Bible journal, my Prayer journal, and my Delight in God journal. Each of these journals can be purchased at The Glory Women.com. The Bible journal is particularly helpful for applying the Word of God to daily life. Instead of just reading scriptures, I begin by writing down the Bible verse or passage I'm studying for the day. Then, I dive deeper by identifying the characters or individuals mentioned in the text. After that, I write down any words or phrases that stand out to me, note my understanding of the passage, and consider how I can apply its teachings to my own life. Bible journaling helps you to grow in faith, find guidance, and experience the transformative power of God's Word in your life.
In my Prayer journal, I record my prayers, including those for others, along with scriptures that will help for that particular prayer. Writing down your prayers helps you stay accountable to your prayer life. It encourages consistency and dedication in communicating with God regularly. Also, this habit allows you to track your prayers and witness God's faithfulness as He answers them over time.
In my Delight in God journal, I express gratitude by writing down what I'm thankful for, along with my daily goals, thoughts, reflections on what I've learned, and how I've sensed God speaking to me. This journal provides a space for pausing and reflecting, allowing you to take a moment to ponder your experiences, thoughts, and emotions from the day even when we have a busy schedule.
Establishing a routine like this can indeed help set a positive tone for the rest of your day.
