Identity Theft

We’ve all been there before, those moments when you don’t really know what you’re doing, but continue pretending as if we do. Maybe you don’t feel like you know who you are, so you're filled with doubt and lack the confidence you need to complete an assignment, or you may be in a season of refinement and things aren’t as clear as they used to be. Ultimately, you feel like an imposter—you're suffering from imposter syndrome. But what exactly does that mean? Imposter syndrome is” a psychological condition that is characterized by persistent doubt concerning one's abilities or accomplishments accompanied by the fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of one's ongoing success”Merriam-Webster. Imposter syndrome can impact how we interact with people, how we view our roles, our character or lack thereof, and ultimately our self-identity. Furthermore, it can keep us from completing assignments God has called us to do. Take a moment to think about the assignments God has called you to do, but you keep putting off. What’s stopping you from going forth and doing the work? The answer is a simple, but intimidating four letter word, that has each of us in a chokehold. The word is FEAR. Full transparency, I struggle with fear each time I sit down to transcribe a blog post, and it always makes me second guess if what I’m doing is good enough.  Like God, are people actually going to read my blog? Am I actually helping someone get to know you, or am I just another blogger? Am I wasting my time? Did you see how all of the questions just snuck on me in seconds? So how do I fight imposter syndrome? Simple, with the word of God. 2 Timothy 1:7  tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. Self -discipline is the keyword in that verse. You have to have discipline, and a desire to change your mindset in order to complete the assignment God has given you. When you shift your mindset to “YES, I CAN DO THIS!” and lean on God for wisdom and instruction, you will see a significant change. Letting go of imposter syndrome and fear allows you to develop your identity in Christ.

When we consider identity in Jesus Christ one scripture comes to mind: Jeremiah 1:5. The Bible tells us that before we were formed in our mother’s womb, God knew us. He predestined us. He appointed us as a prophet to the nations. The beauty in understanding your identity in Christ is that our Father was very intentional with every intricate detail of your life. Your fingerprint is like a snowflake. Your voice is a rarity. Every feature was intentionally designed by your Father. Who God created you to be was intentional. He made no mistake in who He has called you to be. The thing about identity is the enemy attacks the very thing that sets you apart. You are such a threat to the kingdom of darkness that the enemy fights you from birth. How much of a threat you must be for the enemy to fight you and raise war against you as a child? Have you ever set and looked at the course of your life? Have you ever paid attention to the areas the enemy fights you the most? You are a child of God. You were created to do great things. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. You have a major purpose in the earth. You must fight against the lies of the enemy. You must fight against your emotions. You must war with the word of God to believe who God says you are. The Bible is full of scriptures that help you understand your identity in Christ. As we cross over into the New Year, it is imperative that you know who you are and whose you are. You are a child of God. You are marked by God. You carry the DNA of God. You are accepted by God. You are loved by God. You are chosen by God. You are an heir to the kingdom of God. I declare over your life that today you will take your place in God's Royal Family. You will rise and accept the calling of God over your life. Let today be recorded in Heaven and Earth that you will no longer shrink. You will no longer compare yourself. You will no longer accept rejection. You will no longer believe the lies of the enemy. You will no longer go back and forth with who you were created to be. You are HIS. Your Father owns everything. God didn’t create you just to create you; He has a purpose and a plan. I decree that today you will see yourself the way your father designed you.

Decree: I accept my identity in Christ, and I believe who God says I am; in Jesus name.
